What Is Mindful Yoga?
Mindful Yoga is a broadly applicable, person-centred approach to practices that support our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and wellbeing. From mental anxieties to physical limitations, the classes and courses offered here are subtly influenced by the awareness that health and healing come through practices that inspire self-awareness, physical and mental relaxation, and focused, gentle movement that positively influences our muscles, fascia, blood flow and energy (qi) or life force. All sessions are designed to reduce stress and ultimately elicit the Relaxation Response, which supports our optimal capacity to restore and rejuvenate. for All sessions include mindfulness, which can be described as the practice of paying attention in the present moment. Mindfulness is intentional and non-judgemental. During these times of widespread stress and sometimes overwhelming anxieties, it is more important than ever to develop the skills that help us to self-regulate, reduce stress, and increase our resilience and well-being.
Where are sessions held?
Since the advent of Covid all private sessions, classes, and courses are held online with Zoom, rather than in a studio or physical location. All you need is a computer, tablet, or mobile phone.
After registering on this website, you will receive a direct link to Zoom via e-mail. You can easily join the session by simply clicking on the link and then entering your passcode to keep the session secure. You can also download the Zoom Client on your desktop from https://zoom.us/download, or get the Zoom App on your mobile phone or tablet.
What do I need to know about using Zoom?
A good internet connection is recommended to start with, and It’s helpful to have a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted or disturbed by loud noises during a session. We recommend setting up your space and signing in a few minutes early so that you are ready to start on time. Once you are linked, you can manage your own audio and visual buttons. You will notice that microphones are muted on entry to the room, to avoid unnecessary background noise. As you become more familiar with Zoom you will see how easy it is to mute your audio or visual, and use a gallery view or active speaker view during a session.
What is a Community of Practice?
As we move into the digital world one of the benefits during this time of social distancing and less physical contact is that we can still develop a sense of community on line. A Community of Practice is a group of people that share an interest or passion and learn how to do it better together. As humans, we all recognize that this can buoy us up and encourage our engagement with things that are good for us. But being online also gives us the choice of muting our speakers and turning off our video, so that you can enjoy the privacy of your own practice in your own home, and still feel part of something bigger. It’s your choice.
What do I need for a Session?
Most of all, you just need to show up! Sessions vary somewhat but here are some suggestions to help you have a great experience. For all sessions, wear comfortable clothes that you can move easily in and that don’t restrict your movement (like belts, buckles, or heavy jewellery). No need for anything fancy. For meditations, guided practices and chair yoga it is helpful to have a stable chair without wheels, with a supportive back and the ability to keep both soles of the feet flat on the floor. For yoga or qi gong movements, its always best to have bare feet to avoid slipping, and enough space to move your arms and legs freely. You may want to have a water bottle on hand, and props like a yoga mat, yoga blocks, a blanket, eye pillow, and a cushion or two for support. All of these extra tools can be helpful but not necessary. If you don’t have some of these props you can sit or lie on a carpet, substitute books for blocks, use pillows or towels for yoga cushions, or have an extra blanket to roll up. When lying down in svasana or Yoga Nidra, it’s important to be comfortably warm, and to feel that you are safe and undisturbed. We generally cover ourselves with a blanket as the body cools during deep relaxation.

What is the Difference Between Private Sessions, Classes and Courses?
I offer private, one hour sessions to clients who wish to address specific issues that can be positively impacted through targeted practice and discussion. This might cover anything from strategies and techniques to cope with stress, to relieving a stubborn, chronic pain through a personalized practice of yoga, qi gong, and acupressure, to developing a personal meditation practice.
Classes are events that are generally ongoing and may be accessed one at a time.

Courses are events that are offered for a limited length of time and have a specific focus. They may be a one session offering or held for a specific number of sessions and are purchased as a Course. Courses address more specific opportunities to expand our understanding and practices like yoga, meditation and mindfulness.
